What Surface Finishes Are Available for Aluminum 6063?

One of the biggest advantages of Aluminum 6063 is its ability to achieve exceptional surface finishes. Thanks to its ideal balance of magnesium and silicon, it delivers a smoother and more refined finish compared to many other aluminum alloys. 

As Machined Surface Finish

Aluminum 6063 delivers a clean, visually smooth surface when CNC machined. Tool marks are minimal due to the alloy’s soft cutting behavior, making the as-machined finish ideal for internal components, prototypes, and low-cost parts where aesthetics are not a priority.

Anodizing (Type II and Type III)

6063 is known for having one of the best anodizing responses among all aluminum alloys. Type II anodizing produces decorative, corrosion-resistant surfaces in colors like silver, black, champagne, and bronze. Type III hard anodizing provides a harder, more wear-resistant surface suitable for industrial applications.   • What temper of Aluminum 6063 is best for machining?

    6063-T6 is generally preferred for CNC machining because it offers higher strength and better dimensional stability than softer tempers like T4 or T5. XC Machining can work with any temper, but T6 provides the best balance between machinability and final performance. 

  • Does Aluminum 6063 resist corrosion outdoors?
