Frequently asked questions
What Tolerance Does XC Machining Hold for Aerospace CNC Machined Parts?
XC Machining standard aerospace CNC machining tolerance: ±0.005 mm on 5-axis machined features. Tight tolerance: ±0.002 mm available on critical fits, bearing bores, and sealing surfaces — requires specifying on 2D drawing and may require grinding or honing in addition to CNC machining. Surface roughness: Ra 0.8 μm standard; Ra 0.2 μm on sealing faces. All critical dimensions verified by CMM with dimensional report issued per batch.
What Materials Does XC Machining Machine for Aerospace Applications?
XC Machining aerospace materials: titanium Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V (AMS 4928, 950 MPa tensile), aluminum 7075-T6 (AMS 2770, 503 MPa), aluminum 2024-T3 (AMS 2770, 483 MPa, fatigue-resistant), Inconel 718 (AMS 5662, 1,240 MPa, 650°C service), stainless steel 316L (ASTM A276), steel 4340 (AMS 6415, 1,470 MPa heat-treated), PEEK (100 MPa, 250°C), and ULTEM PEI (FST-rated, FAR 25.853). AMS and ASTM material certificates provided per batch.
What Is the Lead Time for Aerospace CNC Machined Parts at XC Machining?
Lead time: 3–7 business days for simple aerospace brackets and enclosures (3-axis CNC, aluminum 6061 or 7075). 7–15 business days for complex 5-axis machined parts in titanium Grade 5 or Inconel 718 (includes DFM review, fixturing, machining, CMM inspection, and surface treatment). Rush delivery: 5–7 business days for urgent 5-axis titanium parts. DFM review and quote returned within 12 hours of STEP file upload.
Does XC Machining Provide Material Traceability for Aerospace Parts?
Yes. Every aerospace batch is traceable by lot number to a material mill certificate confirming alloy chemistry, heat treatment, tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. XC Machining files AMS and ASTM material certificates for titanium Grade 5, aluminum 7075-T6 and 2024-T3, Inconel 718, and steel 4340 — and provides them with every shipment on request. Material records are retained for 3 years.
Is XC Machining ISO Certified for Aerospace Parts Manufacturing?
Machining holds ISO 9001:2015 certification — a quality management system standard covering process control, documentation, first article inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, outgoing dimensional reporting, material traceability, and corrective action procedures. XC Machining does not currently hold AS9100D (aerospace-specific QMS) — aerospace buyers requiring AS9100D certification should specify this requirement at the quoting stage. All aerospace orders follow ISO 9001:2015 procedures as the quality baseline.
