Surface finishes for Aerospace Industry

We offer an extensive array of material options, catering to prototyping through full-scale production needs. Improve durability and performance with a selection of finishes
New Energy - XC Machining
Brushing
Brushing is a technique that utilizes abrasive pads or brushes to add a finish to the surface of a material. It is commonly used on metal surfaces to enhance their visual appeal. This method is especially effective on stainless steel, creating either a linear or circular pattern on the surface.
New Energy - XC Machining
Black oxide coating
Black oxide coating is a popular choice for enhancing the surface of steel and iron. This finish not only provides a visually appealing dark surface, but also offers excellent wear resistance. Additionally, the black oxide coating can enhance the lubricity and durability of the treated surface, making it an ideal option for various applications.
New Energy - XC Machining
Passivation Process
Passivation is a common process used to enhance the corrosion resistance of stainless steel by removing iron impurities and forming a protective oxide layer. This helps to improve the durability and performance of stainless steel in tough environments.

Painting
Paint serves as a surface coating that is effective on a wide range of materials, offering both aesthetic enhancement and protection against corrosion. It is available in numerous color options, making it suitable for application on metals, polymers, wood, and various other substrates.
New Energy - XC Machining
Polishing
Enhance the shine and smoothness of your materials by utilizing polishing techniques. By using abrasives such as buffing wheels or polishing chemicals, you can elevate the reflectivity and overall aesthetic of metals, resulting in a stunning mirror-like finish.

Alodine Coating
Alodine coating, also known as chromate conversion coating, is widely used on metals like aluminum. It serves as an excellent primer for paint or powder coatings, providing a durable and corrosion-resistant finish. By creating a thin layer of protection, it enhances the bond between subsequent coatings, ensuring long-lasting results.

As-machined
Brushing is a technique that utilizes abrasive pads or brushes to add a finish to the surface of a material. It is commonly used on metal surfaces to enhance their visual appeal. This method is especially effective on stainless steel, creating either a linear or circular pattern on the surface.
New Energy - XC Machining
Anodizing
Anodizing, a commonly used surface treatment for aluminum, creates a protective oxide layer on the metal’s surface. This not only enhances the durability and corrosion resistance of CNC machined parts but also adds to their visual appeal. Moreover, anodizing offers various options for coloring, making it an ideal choice for enhancing the overall aesthetic of the material.

Powder Coating
Powder coating is an exceptional dry finishing method that utilizes electrostatic application of fine powder onto various surfaces. Once applied, the curing process takes place to guarantee a permanent treatment. With its remarkable ability to withstand impact, solvents, and UV radiation, powder coating provides an enduring and superior finish. From metals to polymers and even wood, there is a wide range of materials that can benefit from the protective coating of powder.

New Energy Manufacturing Frequently Asked Questions

XC Machining EV manufacturing: CNC milled aluminum 6061-T6 battery enclosure frames (±0.1 mm, IP67 sealing groove ±0.05 mm, anodized Type II, 500-hr salt spray); laser-cut and bent aluminum 5052-H32 battery module housings (±0.1 mm); CNC milled aluminum 6061 motor housings (±0.05 mm, cooling channel geometry, bore concentricity ≤ 0.01 mm); injection molded PA66-GF30 BMS housings (±0.05 mm); and copper C110 bus bars (CNC machined, ±0.1 mm).

EV battery enclosure frames (CNC milled aluminum 6061, moderate complexity): 5–10 business days. EV motor housings (5-axis CNC, ±0.05 mm): 7–12 business days. Solar mounting hardware (CNC + anodize): 5–10 business days. Wind turbine hub flanges (large-format CNC, steel S355): 10–15 business days. Hydrogen bipolar plates (CNC milled SS 316L or titanium, ±0.01 mm): 10–15 business days. DFM review and quote within 12 hours of STEP file upload.

Stainless steel 316L (bipolar plates — chemical resistant to humidified hydrogen and air, electropolishable to Ra 0.4 μm) and titanium Grade 2 (bipolar plates — lighter, chemically resistant to KOH electrolyte in alkaline electrolyzers, 340 MPa tensile) are XC Machining’s primary hydrogen fuel cell materials. Stack end plates are machined from aluminum 6061-T6 (low-pressure fuel cells) or stainless 316L (high-pressure electrolyzers above 30 bar). PTFE sealing gaskets are cut for all stack-level sealing interfaces.

Yes. XC Machining produces aluminum 6061-T6 solar panel racking rails, tracker mounting frames, junction box housings, and inverter enclosures with Type II anodizing (25 μm film, 500+ hour salt spray, Vickers hardness 200–300 HV) for 25-year outdoor photovoltaic installation service life. Black anodizing is available for aesthetic solar applications. Structural dimensions comply with IEC 62817 solar tracker design standards. Production volumes: 500–50,000 units per year.

Yes. XC Machining supports EV component development from prototype through production: CNC machined aluminum prototype battery enclosure (1–50 units, 5–10 days, no tooling) → sheet metal laser-cut bridge production (50–500 units, 5–10 days) → high-volume die-cast aluminum production tooling (500–50,000+ units/year, 25–35 day tooling lead time). Because CNC machining, sheet metal, and injection molding are all in-house at Dongguan, design data and quality records transfer between production stages without supplier re-qualification.
