What Is Fiber Laser Cutting at XC Machining?
Fiber laser cutting at XC Machining uses a focused infrared laser beam (1,060–1,080 nm wavelength) to melt and vaporize metal sheet along a CNC-programmed path. Fiber lasers cut carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and titanium with ±0.1 mm edge-to-edge tolerance and kerf widths of 0.1–0.3 mm.
XC Machining operates fiber laser cutting machines with nitrogen (N₂) and oxygen (O₂) assist gas options. Nitrogen assist gas produces a clean, oxide-free, weld-ready edge — preferred for stainless steel, aluminum, and cosmetic parts. Oxygen assist gas burns faster and cuts thicker carbon steel at lower cost — preferred for structural steel parts where edge oxidation is acceptable. The correct assist gas is selected automatically based on material and application.
Upload a DXF (2D profile) or STEP (3D sheet metal) file to XC Machining for a laser cutting quote within 12 hours. Engineers review every file for minimum feature size (≥ material thickness for holes), minimum bridge width (≥ 50% of material thickness), and nesting efficiency before quoting to eliminate DFM surprises after order placement.

Why Choose XC Machining for Laser Cutting Services?
XC Machining fiber laser cutting achieves ±0.1 mm edge tolerance on carbon steel (25 mm max), stainless steel (20 mm max), and aluminum (15 mm max) from its Dongguan, China facility. DFM review within 12 hours. First parts in 3–5 business days. ISO 9001:2015 certified.

XC Machining fiber laser cutters operate with both nitrogen (N₂) and oxygen (O₂) assist gas. N₂ produces oxide-free, weld-ready edges on stainless and aluminum. O₂ enables faster, lower-cost cutting on thick carbon steel up to 25 mm — the widest material thickness range in XC Machining's sheet metal services.

Standard edge-to-edge tolerance: ±0.1 mm (ISO 2768-m). Tight tolerance: ±0.05 mm available on parts ≤ 300 × 300 mm. Positional repeatability: ±0.05 mm. Kerf width: 0.1–0.3 mm, compensated in CNC nesting software — no manual kerf offset needed in your DXF file.

Upload DXF or STEP file. XC Machining engineers check minimum hole size, minimum bridge width, minimum feature size, sharp corners, and text stroke width — and return DFM feedback within 12 hours before any material is committed. Zero surprise rework costs after order placement.

Laser cutting, bending, welding, deburring, anodizing, and powder coating are all performed in XC Machining's Dongguan facility. No outsourcing means single quality record, single lead time, and single point of contact from raw sheet to finished assembly.

What Surface Finishes Does XC Machining Apply to Laser-Cut Parts?
XC Machining applies deburring (Ra 1.6–3.2 μm as-cut edge), brushing (Ra 0.4–0.8 μm), polishing (Ra 0.1–0.4 μm), anodizing (Type II 5–25 μm film, Type III 25–50 μm), and powder coating (60–120 μm, 500-hour salt spray) to laser-cut aluminum, steel, and stainless steel parts.
Laser-cut edge produced directly by fiber laser with N₂ assist gas. Edge roughness: Ra 1.6–3.2 μm on sheet ≤ 6 mm. Burr height: ≤ 0.1 mm on thin sheet, negligible on most mild cuts. Suitable for structural and non-cosmetic parts where edge finish is secondary to dimensional accuracy.
Vibratory or hand deburring removes sharp edges and residual dross from laser-cut profiles. Post-deburring edge roughness: Ra 1.6–3.2 μm. Eliminates burr heights above 0.1 mm on thick steel cut with O₂ assist. Applied to all production parts as standard; included in laser cutting lead time at no additional delay.
Directional abrasive brushing produces a uniform satin texture across the laser-cut part surface. Surface roughness: Ra 0.4–0.8 μm. Applied to aluminum and stainless steel sheet parts for consumer electronics enclosures, architectural panels, and decorative fixtures requiring a consistent visual grain direction without polishing cost.
Mechanical polishing produces a specular (mirror-like) or semi-mirror surface on stainless steel and aluminum laser-cut parts. Surface roughness: Ra 0.1–0.4 μm (semi-mirror) or Ra ≤ 0.1 μm (mirror polish). Used for medical device housings, food processing equipment, and decorative architectural components.
Type II anodizing (5–25 μm film, Ra 0.4–0.8 μm, Vickers hardness 200–300 HV) and Type III hardcoat anodizing (25–50 μm film, Ra 0.4–1.6 μm, Vickers hardness 400–600 HV) applied to laser-cut aluminum 5052 and 6061 parts. Available in clear, black, blue, red, and gold. Salt spray resistance: 336 hours (Type II), 1,000+ hours (Type III).
Thermosetting polyester powder coat applied electrostatically and cured at 180–200°C. Film thickness: 60–120 μm. RAL and Pantone color matching. Salt spray resistance: 500–1,000 hours. Gloss levels: matte (10–30 GU), satin (50–60 GU), gloss (85+ GU at 60°). Applied to laser-cut carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum structural parts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Materials Can Be Cut with Fiber Laser Cutting at XC Machining?
XC Machining fiber laser cutting supports carbon steel (25 mm max), stainless steel 304 and 316L (20 mm max), aluminum 5052 and 6061 (15 mm max), copper C110 (6 mm), brass C360 (8 mm), titanium Grade 2 and Grade 5 (8 mm), galvanized steel (3 mm), and spring steel 65Mn (6 mm). All grades available with material mill certificates.
What Tolerance Does XC Machining Hold for Laser-Cut Parts?
Standard edge-to-edge tolerance: ±0.1 mm (ISO 2768-m) on sheet up to 6 mm. Tight tolerance: ±0.05 mm available on parts ≤ 300 × 300 mm on request. Kerf width: 0.1–0.15 mm for thin sheet (≤ 3 mm); 0.2–0.3 mm for thick sheet (6–25 mm). Positional repeatability: ±0.05 mm throughout the sheet.
What Is the Difference Between Nitrogen and Oxygen Assist Gas in Laser Cutting?
Nitrogen (N₂) assist gas produces a clean, oxide-free, weld-ready edge — preferred for stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and cosmetic parts. Edge roughness with N₂: Ra 1.6–3.2 μm. Oxygen (O₂) assist burns faster through thick carbon steel (10–25 mm) at lower operating cost, but produces a dark oxide layer on the cut edge — acceptable for structural parts, unsuitable for stainless or aluminum.
What File Formats Does XC Machining Accept for Laser Cutting?
Lead time: 3–5 business days for standard laser-cut parts (includes 1-day DFM review, 1-day material preparation and nesting, 1–2 days cutting and deburring, 1 day inspection and packaging). Rush delivery: 2–3 business days for simple flat profiles on commonly stocked materials (carbon steel, stainless 304, aluminum 5052). Post-processing (anodizing, powder coating) adds 2–5 business days.
What Is the Maximum Sheet Size XC Machining Can Laser Cut?
Maximum sheet size on XC Machining’s laser cutting bed: 3,000 × 1,500 mm. Minimum part size: 10 × 10 mm. Maximum material thickness: 25 mm (carbon steel), 20 mm (stainless steel), 15 mm (aluminum), 8 mm (titanium), 8 mm (brass), 6 mm (copper).
